My god, it’s Monday already. I can’t believe it. I’m not ready. It’s going to be a crazy busy week, and I feel badly prepared. This is the part where I don my scuba mask and just dive in. You can’t wade into shit like this; it offers too many opportunities to jump out because it’s too freaking cold or some other nonsense. Nope, this is a “DIVE, DIVE, DIVE” situation. Sink or swim bitches there is no in-between. To be fair, this is how I address most situations in my life, including grocery shopping.
Really, it’s nothing epic, just me putting into effect a few of those goals for my 31st year. The ones I’m most worried about are the ones where I have to focus on caring about me. I’m great at taking care of other people, but taking care of myself is a whole new hurdle. I just have to convince me that I’m worth all this extra energy I’m about to start putting into myself. It’s all f***ed up.
Haven’t heard back on the majority of my queries yet, so I’m hoping no news is good news and simply not that my book is so awful, they can’t even reply. We’re going to hope they’re just re-reading it because it’s so awesome and they haven’t had time to reply yet.
Also, it’s book review time! Just finished, Dreadful Company by Vivian Shaw. This is one I listened to on my Audible account. I love audio-books. Great way to get everything I want to get done in a day done and still have time for books. I warn you now this isn’t going to be my best review. I started listening to this before I decided to do reviews, so, I didn’t take notes.
Dr. Greta Helsing is quickly becoming one of my favorite heroines. She is smart, not a damsel, and as a doctor for the paranormal, she has some very interesting stories. This book follows her to Paris for a paranormal medical conference. Everything seems pretty par for course until she is kidnapped by a vampire who has a score to settle with her friend, Ruthven.
Then she is thrown into a cell in the Paris catacombs, where she encounters several new (to me) monsters and ends up providing care to the overly-dramatic vampire coven keeping her prisoner. I don’t want to give too much away, but I was thrilled with the work in of the Phantom of the Opera.
In short, Vivian Shaw is a wonderfully-talented-author, who has a real gift for giving her characters life. If you’re into vampires, the paranormal, fantasy, and the like, I can’t recommend this book enough. I’m personally, already dying for the third installment, Grave Importance, to come out. Can’t wait.
